latest: Another Explosion As N’Delta Militants Bombs NPDC Pipeline In Delta State

The Niger Delta Militants has blown up the Abura oil pipeline, a major oil trunk line operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company around Osieta Avenue near Otu-Jeremi in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to our source the trunk line was reportedly bombed on Sunday at about 6.40am by the militants causing a serious fire outbreak in the area.
The incident occurred a kilometre near the West African biggest Otorogu Gas Plant, at Otu-Jeremi, Iwhrekan and Otor-Udu communities across Ughelli South and Udu council areas of the state.
Residents of the area confirmed the incident, saying that the attack was heralded with explosion before they later observed a fire outbreak in the area.
A source said it was the swift intervention of the fire service from the Otorogu Gas Plant that stopped the raging fire from spreading to residential buildings which was just less than a kilometre from the scene of the incident.
There was no casualty in the incident which lasted for over five hours, another source added.
The Abura oil pipeline is one of the major trunk lines that supplies crude to the Otu-Jeremi Flow Station and the Otorogu Gas Plant.
The Chairman of Ughelli South Council Area, Mr. Paul Etaga, who had earlier visited the scene of the attack along with Lt. Col. U. Abdusalam, Commander, 222 Battalion, Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli North council, confirmed the incident.
Etaga, who spoke with our correspondent on Sunday evening, decried the attack, saying several economic trees in the area were razed down by the fire outbreak.
The Ughelli South Council Chairman said, “The incident led to a fire outbreak. Meanwhile, firefighters had quenched the inferno. We appeal to our youths and militants to desist from vandalising oil facilities. It only causes more harm to us, please.
“Whoever that is responsible for the attack should stop. Youths and militants should know there are better ways of agitating rather than destroying your environment. If not for the fire service that acted swiftly nearby houses would have been burnt and maybe lives would have been lost too.”
A military source, who later confirmed the incident, said no culprit had been arrested in connection with the attack although investigation had commenced.
No militant group, including the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate and the Niger Delta Avengers, has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack on the oil facility.

Nnamdi Kanu Tells FG " I Can Never Accept Your Offers, No Retreat On Biafra Restoration

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu The Detained Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has vowed never to betray Biafrans or abandon the fight for Biafra restoration, Nnamdi said he would continue to reject materials offered him to renounce Biafra struggle until victory for Biafrans achieved. According to the report, read after the cut...
Nnamdi Kanu who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejioffor said his prosecutors and persecutors have come with many strategies to trick him to sign off his quest for Biafra and regain his freedom which he rejected because of his love for the freedom of his people.
“I have been battling with forces of darkness both physically and spiritually since I was arrested. They came with many strategies just to trick me into signing off my quest for Biafra and gain my personal freedom.
Little did they know that I am more intelligent and determined; I refused all their offers because the freedom of my people (Biafrans) is paramount to me and their freedom is the freedom of Nnamdi Kanu. The pains and agony of all Biafrans are the pains and agony of Kanu.”
“The senseless killing of Biafrans is the senseless killing of Nnamdi Kanu. The cry of the Biafran youths is the cry of Nnamdi Kanu. The joblessness of Biafrans after university is the joblessness of Nnamdi Kanu. The impoverishment and subjugation of all Biafrans is the impoverishment and subjugation of Nnamdi Kanu. The child abuses of Biafran children by the Hausa/Fulani cattle headers is that of Nnamdi Kanu,” he stated.
“The illegal detention of Biafrans in several prisons both overseas and Nigeria is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The sexual harassment of our young ladies while seeking for jobs after graduation is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The rapping and killing of our mothers and sister in our farmland by the Hausa/Fulani cattle headers is also that of Nnamdi Kanu. The untimely death of Biafrans due to bad road situations in Biafra Land is that of Nnamdi Kanu.”
Kanu continues: “The cries of our parents living in the riverine areas they call South/South due to the environmental damage caused by Shell in our land is also that of Nnamdi Kanu. The seizure of goods and sleepless nights and pains of all the Biafrans importers in the hands of the Hausa/Fulani, Yoruba customs and Police is that of Nnamdi Kanu.”
“The stress that Biafrans pass through while traveling for 8 hours to Lagos and Abuja International Airports before they gain access to travel abroad which in most cases take many lives in the process while traveling is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The heartbrake of Biafran business men and women, importers and petty traders in Lagos State due to intentional fire outbreaks caused by haters of Biafrans, in their business places in Lagos and another part of Nigeria is that of Nnamdi Kanu,” he declared.
“The cry of the Biafran families that lose their children in Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and India and other parts of the world due to immigration and police intimidation is that of Nnamdi Kanu. The death of Bafrans, those trying to cross Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea to Europe in search of greener pastures is that of Nnamdi Kanu.
“The fake promises of all the politicians in our villages and towns in (Biafran land) who promise and deceive our parents during election but always failing them  after being voted into power  and all these problems that affect all Biafrans are the problems of Nnamdi Kanu too,” the IPOB leader noted.
“I want to say, thank you, thank you to our mother from, Akwa-Ibom, Cross Rivers, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia states. I am grateful for all our mothers because you gave birth to these great men and women of honour, those sons and daughters that always protest for my release under the Sun and rain. My thanks to all the fathers too who allowed their children to join (IPOB meetings) across Biafra Land,” Kanu applauded.

FG plans to import fuel from Niger republic

The Managing Director of NNPC Group, Maikanti Baru, last weekend disclosed the ongoing plans by the Federal Government of Nigeria to import fuel from Niger Republic to Nigeria. According to Maikanti Baru who disclosed this during a town hall meeting with the management and staff of KRPC in Kaduna, said President Buhari has ordered the construction of about 1, 000 kilometer crude oil pipelines from Niger Republic to Kaduna Refinery. Read his statement after the cut...

“Due to challenges with the aged refinery and crude oil pipelines that had been breached severally, the operations of the refinery has been epileptic. This we are determined to resolve through various intervention methods, including evaluation of alternative crude oil supply from Niger Republic through building of a pipelines of over 1, 000 kilometers from Agadem to Kaduna. That effort is being championed by Mr. President himself. It was important to explore alternative crude supply to KRPC which has been affected by vandalism of pipelines and obsolescence. The Corporation has already started engagements with the Nigerien Minister of Petroleum and the Chinese that are operating the field at Agadem located in the East Niger Rift Basin"he said

War Begins As Obasanjo Mobilizes PDP, Plots Buhari’s Immediate Removal From Aso Rock

The former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has been accused by the House of Representatives, of plotting the removal of President Muhammadu Buhari from office.
The Lawmakers who on Thursday, described Obasanjo as the “grandfather of corruption”, maintained that the former President, “wants to bring down Buhari’s government”.
Post-Nigeria learnt that Obasanjo is secretly romancing with some sections of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other opposition parties, ahead of 2019.
House Spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, at a News Conference, accused Obasanjo of introducing corruption to the National Assembly, on his first day in office, in 1999.
Namdas said: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, at a lecture he delivered recently, wherein, in his characteristic manner, accused everybody, but himself of corruption.
“He ventured to accuse the National Assembly of budget padding, accused the House of criminal activities of threatening the life of a ‘whistleblower’, lampooned constituency projects which he approved as President, ventured to discuss the budget of National Assembly, which is highly underfunded”.
Namdas, said the House would ordinarily not join issues with the former President, but “because of the material misstatement of facts, outright lies and falsehoods, and mischievous innuendo introduced in his statement, we are left with no option, but to correct him.
“We have repeatedly maintained that there was no “padding” of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly, as provided in the Acts Authentication Act, and assented to by Mr. President. It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature, would allow himself to be hoodwinked, and procured by a renegade Member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies, just because he was removed from office.
“He claimed that the National Assembly Budget is very high, when by all standards, the National Assembly is grossly underfunded, and is hampered from effectively, and legitimately carrying out its constitutionally assigned functions.
“The National Assembly Budget, funds a bureaucracy of about 5,000 civil servants. It has some other agencies under its preview, such as the National Assembly Service Commission, with its own staff of about 500, even the Public Complaints Commission, is now a Parastatal of the National Assembly.
“National Assembly Budget, also funds the National Institute for Legislative Studies, which is a legislative think-tank, and highly rated academic institution, that serves both National and State Houses of Assembly, and even International Legislators. All these Agencies also have their capital budget, including development of their headquarters, procurement of office equipment, procurement of regular items for running their offices; the National Assembly maintains Legislative Aides of about 3,000 in number, that aid the work of the Assembly; it also conducts regular public hearings involving the media and stakeholders, and oversight activities, involving huge sums of money.
“It is also unbecoming of a former President, to quote figures of sums of money that are factually incorrect. No member of the House of Representatives receives N10m every month. The salaries and allowances of Members of the House, are as determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
“Of course further sums of money are spent as running costs, that is, the cost of running the office of a Member.
“If a Minister, Chief Executive, or Director in a Ministry travels on official duties, for instance, do you include the cost of his ticket and accommodation as part of his salary, or allowances? Does the cost of stationery and maintenance of equipment like computers used in their offices, form part of their salaries and allowances?
“These are some of the costs that must be taken care of by the National Assembly, and the media calls these costs “jumbo pay”.
“For goodness sake, the National Assembly is an arm of government, not just an ordinary agency of government.”
“Have we forgotten the sacks of money displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives, being bribe money paid by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to some Honourable Members to impeach Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ghali N’abba?
“Have we forgotten that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, used his position as President, to extort money from businessmen and contractors with his government, to build his presidential library?
“The list of his corrupt acts while in office is endless. Unquestionably, he is the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria. He remains the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria, and lacks the moral authority to discuss corruption, or indeed abuse of office in Nigeria, as he remains the most corrupt Nigerian on record.
“It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Buhari, he did same to Gen. Babangida, he attempted to bring down Gen. Abacha, before he imprisoned him for treason; he made frantic efforts to derail the government of President Ya’ardua, when he couldn’t use him.
“He supported President Goodluck Jonathan, but when he refused to take dictation, he turned against him. He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government.
“The way Chief Obasanjo talks, gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader, who has never held any office. What did he do about the issues he raised in his 8 years as President?
“This is a man with unlimited access to President Buhari. Or is it because he has not appointed all his cronies as requested? We may never know. His stuck in trade, is blackmail, subversion, and treachery.  We wish him well.”

Obama administration says there is no evidence of hackers tampering with the 2016 presidential election

The President-elect, Donald Trump's opponent, the Green Party's 2016 presidential candidate, Jill Stein demanded a vote recount in Wisconsin, a Democratic state that he won, citing inconsistencies in the votes. But the Obama administration has said there was no evidence of the elections been tampered with or hacked.
Jill Stein who didn't get enough votes to be on the ballot paper said:
“After a divisive and painful presidential race, reported hacks into voter and party databases and individual email accounts are causing many American to wonder if our election results are reliable. These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified. We deserve elections we can trust.”

However, according to Politico, the Obama administration said it has seen no evidence of hackers tampering with the 2016 presidential election, even as recount proceedings began in Wisconsin.
Politico reported that the Obama administration said:
“We stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people,” a senior administration official told POLITICO late Friday. “The federal government did not observe any increased level of malicious cyber activity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on election day,” the official added. “We believe our elections were free and fair from a cybersecurity perspective.”
Hillary Clinton also denies that there was any foul play with the election results but her team still joined Stein in the recount process in Wisconsin.
The recounts in all three states, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania need to be done by Dec. 13th 2016 for it to be considered ..which seems highly unlikely.

Rivers re-run: "Commissioner of Police has withdrawn my security" God will protect me— Wike cries

Ahead of the December 10, re-run legislative elections in Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike said the State Commissioner of Police has withdrawn majority of policemen providing security for him, just as he called the youths in the state to protect their votes.
In a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police the Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Odesanya said it was not true that Policemen were withdrawn from the governor, assuring that Policemen will go about their duties on the election day professionally.
Flagging off the reconstruction of the Igbo-Petche Road on Friday, Governor Wike said this deliberate security infraction orchestrated to intimidate him, will not succeed.
He said: “As I speak with you, the Commissioner of Police has withdrawn the security around me. It is God that will protect me. “As a governor, the Commissioner of Police has the effrontery to withdraw my security. There is no limit to this kind of intimidation and impunity“. "despite the assault by the Commissioner of Police and the Security Agencies, nobody in Rivers State will be intimidated by the political antics of the police." He said
The governor also claimed he has intercepted the security manual for the election to be used by Rivers State Police Command. But according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Odesanya, Police-men will go about their duties on the election day professionally. he said :it’s not true that Policemen were withdrawn from the governor, in a statement he said:
“I have not withdrawn any of his (governor’s) Policemen. How can I withdraw his Policemen, who will now protect him. I can’t withdraw governor’s security now. How can I. You know politics is very close so you hear all kind of things”, he said.

Breaking: Army and Navy shoots 14 in Delta communities, 3 residents missing, many injured

According to the report, 8 hit by stray bullets at Warri Corner.  Mother, 2 children missing, six injured at Okosugene as Army and Navy invade Delta communities
According to Vanguard report, EIGHT villagers at Sand Field 1 and 2, popularly known as Warri Corner, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, were hit by stray bullets when men of the Nigeria Navy, NNS Base, Warri, Delta State, shot sporadically into the air while allegedly testing their weapons on Thursday.

The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, in a statement, yesterday, described the random shootings as irresponsible

In a related development, the Niger Delta Peace Movement, NDPM, has raised the alarm that mother and two children were missing , while six persons were seriously injured in an aerial bombardment of a fishing settlement in Burutu by troops of Operation Delta Safe, earlier same day.

National president of FHRAAC, Alaowei Cleric, said in Warri: “About eight persons hit by stray bullets have been hospitalised in different health centres across Delta State. We cannot believe that the men of the Nigerian Navy were only testing their weapons.”
Pointing out that the shooting was deliberate, the group said: “The unprovoked attack on Naifors Island, popularly known as Sand Field 1 and 2 by the men of the Nigerian Navy from the NNS Base, Warri is the height of human inhumanity to mankind. The excuse that they were only testing their weapons sounds unprofessional.”

“This is highly ridiculous as the Navy seems to be telling the world that it does not know the difference between testing weapon and attacking enemies. How on earth can testing the military weaponry result to sacking an entire community, which has inflicted grievous injuries on the innocent and peace-loving settlers in the Island?
“This is a manifestation of the Federal Government’s agenda to wipe out the Niger Delta communities from planet earth ostensibly to allow it have free access to the oil. We hope that the world is seeing these systematic invasions of Niger Delta communities whose offence is that they have oil in their lands,” it said.

The group asserted: “We can safely say that a silent genocide is going on in the Niger Delta. For the military to absolve itself of any culpability, let it set up an independent panel of inquiry to ascertain the truth. Let those unprofessional and trigger-happy military men be brought to book.” On the bombardments of Okosugbene settlement in Burutu area by the men of Operation Delta Safe, the group said:
“The military ought to have adhered to the rule of engagement. Its operation has hospitalised more than three persons, who are innocent fisher men and women.”
“From our findings, Okosugbene is known to be a fishing camp which has been in existence from time immemorial. If there is any militant camp close to the village, the military ought to have separated the militants camp from the village. The casualties of the military bombardments of the village are women and their children.
“We have reliably gathered that Master Wisdom Ekeremo, 5 years and Miss Paulina Maika were hit by the bullets of the invading military, while Mrs Apunu Akaraowei is missing. The entire fishing village has been brought to rubble by the aerial bombardments. We have not heard of any militant casualty, which ought to have been the target of the military, the group asserted.

Nigeria Military Bombarded Us, Describes Us As Militants – Ijaw Fishermen

The Ijaw fishermen and women, who narrowly escaped death on Thursday’s bombing of their fishing camp at Okosugbene Creek, Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State, by troops of Operation Delta Safe, narrated their ordeal.
According to The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, and Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, in separate statements, said that several women and children were killed and injured in detached attack and shooting by soldiers and navy, on Burutu waterways and Warri.
Speaking to newsmen, one of the fishermen, Mr. Peter Ebitimi, said: “We were bombed while we were still asleep, I am a fisherman, our village is made up of only fishermen and women, there is no militant camp near our village, I do not even know how I survived the heavy bombs.
His words: “The military bombed us out of frustration when they could not locate the alleged militants they were looking for. My sister, Paulina Maika, was seriously wounded on the head, several fisher men/women and children are still missing, and others injured were rushed to the hospital in Warri,” he added.
He stated: “Wisdom Ekeremo, a 5- year old, seriously wounded in the bombardment has also been admitted at the Central Hospital, Warri, and others at various hospitals, which I do not know the names now.”
Another angler, who was unhappy that the fishing settlement was described as a militant camp, said: “It is not true that our village is a militant camp, it is not true that there is a militant camp near our village. What happened was that some militants came in contact with military patrol gun boats in Burutu-Warri River, close to our village Junction.”
“The military shot at the militants and the militants responded with heavy fire, and the military was frustrated. The soldiers called for help to tackle the militants, but very unfortunately before the arrival of more gunboats and two fighter jets, the militants had already left.
“So when the military bomber jets came, they began to hover and bomb every mangrove tree and equally bombed our village. They bombed us from both land and air” he said.

late Dim Ojukwu Comes Alive As Biafrans Celebrates 5th Death Anniversary

The Former Biafran Leader,  late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu will today resurrect  in the Imo State capital, Owerri, as thousands of Biafrans and leaders from other parts of the country converge  to celebrate his fifth death anniversary.
Dignitaries expected to rev up the memories of the late Igbo leader include‎ the founder of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Dr Frederick Fasehun; Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF) leader, Alhaji Mujaheed Asari Dokubo; former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Hamza Al- Mustapha; Ojukwu’s widow, Amb. Bianca, among Others
Apparently enthused about the development, Ojukwu’s widow,  Bianca, commended members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) led by Chief Ralph Uwazuruike for keeping alive the memories of her late husband.
The former Ambassador to Spain spoke against the backdrop of ‎the inter-denominational memorial service and celebration of the 5th anniversary of the demise of the Biafra leader being organised by MASSOB/BIM at the Ojukwu International Memorial Library, Owerri, Imo State.
She commended Uwazuruike for striving to keep alive the memory of the great Igbo leader by organising the annual remembrance ceremony, saying that “it’s a befitting tribute to a man who sacrificed his comfort and in his entire life, fought for the advancement and development of his people.”
Bianca said that Ojukwu firmly believed that his destiny was inextricably tied to that of his people, pointing out that that informed his relentless quest for fairness and justice on their behalf.
“One thing he would never contemplate was the slavery of the Ndigbo. He always maintained that Biafra came as a reaction to the pogrom in the North and later in the South of Nigeria,” she said.
Quoting the late Ikemba of Nnewi, Bianca said: “Biafra itself, as declaration was then and has always been on my mind,  a trace on an imaginary map of Nigeria that says or was meant to say – to all the people that are being hunted by fellow citizens outside…one, you can get across to this land.
“We would better be able to take good care of you, as you are today. We cannot go to all the various areas to help you, but this should be clear and visible; once you step within this boundary, everything we have is equally yours, once you cross this line, if you are alive, we are alive. If you are dead, we die together.”

Metuh: Witness never said media houses received money to launder Jonathan’s image - Counsel

According to a press statement released by Barr. Ben Chuks Nwosu, Counsel to Chief Olisa Metuh. Read the statement after the cut...
Our attention has been drawn to a misleading report in a section of the media suggesting that the Fifth Defence Witness in the case involving our client, Chief Olisa Metuh, told the court that money was paid to media houses or their representatives from the controversial N400 million to launder the image of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
This report is highly embarrassing and does not in anyway reflect the testimony and evidence of the Fifth Defence witness, Mr. Richard Ihediwa in the court.
What the witness told the court was that the sum paid into his account by Chief Metuh, who was National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time was for payments for sundry advertorials placed by Chief Metuh in various media houses.
The witness had earlier laid a proper foundation that media advertorials from the PDP are placed and paid for by the National Publicity Secretary, mostly in cash or through bank transfers to the media house through their representatives covering the party.
The witness, who is Special Assistant to our client, stated directly and clearly that all the payments to the media were for advertorials, and that paying through representatives of the media houses was the normal practice in the media industry. He went ahead to present documents including bank tellers to justify the payments. The records of the court are clear in this regard.
Furthermore, when questioned under-cross examination regarding the appearance of names of some journalists in the payment tellers, the witness stated clearly that the payments were for advertorial placed in their respective media houses and showed documents to justify the payments in line with the practice in the media industry.
At no point throughout his testimony did the witness tell the court that any media house or any representative/staff of any media house was paid in whatever form to launder the image of the former President as suggested in the misleading report.
We find this particularly painful for the fact that since the arrest and arraignment of our client, he had never attempted in anyway to drag in any individual and/or organization in connection with his travail.
Finally, while urging reporters covering the court to ensure accurate reportage of events and proceedings, we regret the embarrassment the unfortunate report must have caused the respective media houses or persons mentioned in the said misleading reports.

Shocking: Don’t Vote For Buhari In 2019, Obasanjo Warns Nigerians

The former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has warned Nigerians not to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari coming 2019 general election, as his change turns to hardship and rights violation.
The recent outburst by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, against President Muhammadu Buhari, National Assembly Members, Judges, among others, is the more reason why the incumbent President will lose woefully in the forthcoming 2019 poll, an Aide close to Obasanjo, hinted Post-Nigeria on Wednesday night.

The Aide who preferred to remain anonymous, disclosed that, “Baba will never again support Buhari, because he has disappointed those who brought him to power, and the nation in general.
“I must confess, the lecture the former President delivered, was a true reflection of his stance on Buhari’s government… I repeat, I doubt if Obasanjo will ever throw his weight behind Buhari again.”
He added: “Obasanjo has been complaining secretly, not intending to make his complaint public, in order not to overheat the polity, but there is no best time to open up, except now.”
This came as Obasanjo, who was speaking in Lagos, on Wednesday, November 23, served a signal, that the era of being soft on Buhari’s administration was over.
Delivering the keynote at the First Akintola Williams Annual Lecture, Obasanjo, lashed at the Buhari administration, for repeatedly lumping the country’s three previous administrations (including the one he, Obasanjo led) together, and then accusing them of mis-governance.
He also advised Buhari, to stop dwelling on the past, saying since he was elected to change the country, he should concentrate on clearing the mess he inherited.
“Now that we have had ‘change’, because the actors, and the situation needed to be changed, let us move forward to have progress through a comprehensive economic policy and programme that is intellectually, strategically, and philosophically based,” Obasanjo said.
The former President, did not spare the National Assembly, which he says stinks to high heavens, and the Nigerian Military, which he said needed to be purged.
Post-Nigeria, earlier reported that Obasanjo had lauded Buhari for his fight against Boko Haram, while blaming the rapid growth of the terrorist group on former President, Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
Obasanjo however, described Boko Haram as a formidable terror threat, that had to be completely wiped out, to ensure the safety of Nigerians.

Breaking: Obasanjo ‘ is the Godfather of corruption in Nigeria’, says APC Reps

Its barely 24hours after the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo lampooned the President, Muhammadu Buhari. All Progressives Congress, APC led government,Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Abdulrazaq Namdas on Thursday took a swipe at the former president describing him as the grand father of corruption in Nigeria.
Abdulrazaq Namdas also alleged at a press briefing held at the NASS complex that Obasanjo has the intention of bringing down President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

Namdas who read a prepared statement said:
”Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at a lecture he delivered recently, wherein, in his characteristic manner accused everybody but himself of corruption.

” He ventured to accuse the National Assembly of Budget padding, accused the House of criminal activities of threatening the life of a “whistleblower”, lampooned constituency projects which he approved as President, ventured to discuss the budget of National Assembly which is highly underfunded?

” The House of Representatives would ordinarily not join issues with the former President as he has held an office that deserves respect and reverence. “However, because of the material mis-statement of facts, outright lies and falsehoods, and mischievous innuendo introduced in his statement, we are left with no option but to correct him.
” We have repeatedly maintained that there was no “padding” of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly as provided in the Acts Authentication Act and assented to by Mr. President.

” It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature would allow himself to be hoodwinked and procured by a renegade member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies just because he was removed from office. For the avoidance of doubt, there is no crime that was committed by the National Assembly by exercising its constitutional function of appropriation.

“If Chief Obasanjo has an issue with the execution of the 2016 Budget or indeed other Appropriation Acts, he should direct his anger elsewhere.

“He claimed that the National Assembly Budget is very high, when by all standards, the National Assembly is grossly underfunded and is hampered from effectively and legitimately carrying out its Constitutionally assigned functions. The National Assembly Budget funds a bureaucracy of about 5,000 civil servants.

” It has some other agencies under its preview such as the National Assembly Service Commission with its own staff of about 500, even the Public Complaints Commission is now a parastatal of the National Assembly. National Assembly Budget also funds the National Institute for Legislative Studies, which is a legislative think-tank and highly rated academic institution that serves both National and State Houses of Assembly and even international legislators.

” All these agencies also have their capital budget including development of their headquarters, procurement of office equipment, procurement of regular items for running their offices; the National Assembly maintain legislative aides of about 3,000 in number, that aid the work of the Assembly; it also conducts regular public hearings involving the media and stakeholders and oversight activities, involving huge sums of money.

“The cost implications of running the National Assembly is high because of the nature of our Presidential democracy. Then of course, there are 109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives, that require proper equipment to function effectively.

” They require adequate travel and transport support to carry out legislative functions. The National Assembly also has buildings and offices to build and maintain. “National Assembly staff and members attend conferences, trainings, seminars to keep abreast of legislative developments worldwide. The activities are very encompassing and expensive.

” It is also unbecoming of a former President to quote figures of sums of money that are factually incorrect. No member of the House of Representatives receives N10m every month. The salaries and allowances of members of the House are as determined by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).ObasanjoObasanjo ” Of course further sums of money are spent as running costs, that is, the cost of running the office of a member. If a Minister, Chief Executive or Director in a Ministry travels on official duties, for instance, do you include the cost of his ticket and accommodation as part of his salary or allowances? Does the cost of stationery and maintenance of equipment like computers used in their offices, form part of their salaries and allowances? These are some of the costs that must be taken care of by the National Assembly and the media calls these costs “jumbo pay”.
“For goodness sake, the National Assembly is an arm of government, not just an ordinary agency of government.

“The Budget of many agencies in the Executive Branch are indeed higher than the current Budget of the National Assembly that is an arm of government. Examples abound, CBN, NNPC, NCC etc. Allowances paid to even junior staff of some of these government agencies cannot be compared to what members of National Assembly enjoy.

” Undoubtedly, the former President Obasanjo is understandably angry with the National Assembly as an institution having foiled his ambition for a third-term in office even after trying to corrupt the members with a bribe of at least N50m each. “Lest we forget, the person who introduced corruption to the National Assembly is Chief Olesugn Obasanjo. He birthed the 4th Republic National Assembly with corrupt practices from day one; indeed the first day of the Republic. He bribed both PDP, ANPP and AD legislators on their inauguration in 1999 to vote against the majority candidate of PDP, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo. That was how Senator Evan Enwerem became Senate President.

Have we forgotten the sacks of money displayed on the floor of the House of Representatives being bribe money paid by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to some Honourable members to impeach Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ghali N’abba?

” Have we forgotten that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo used his position as President to extort money from businessmen and contractors with his government to build his presidential library?

“The list of his corrupt acts while in office is endless. “Unquestionably, he is the greatest corrupt person ever to hold office in Nigeria. He remains the grandfather of corruption in Nigeria and lacks the moral authority to discuss corruption or indeed abuse of office in Nigeria as he remains the most corrupt Nigerian on record.
“It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Buhari, he did same to Gen. Babangida, he attempted to bring down Gen. Abacha before he imprisoned him for treason; he made frantic efforts to derail the government of President Ya’ardua when he couldn’t use him. He supported President Goodluck Jonathan but when he refused to take dictation, he turned against him.

“He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government.

The way Chief Obasanjo talks gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader who has never held any office. What did he do about the issues he raised in his 8 years as President?

“This is a man with unlimited access to President Buhari. Or is it because he has not appointed all his cronies as requested? We may never know. His stock in trade is blackmail, subversion and treachery.

Amnesty International: Nigeria Army Disagree Over Death Of MASSOB, IPOB Supporters

Nigerian Army has faulted the claims by the global human rights watchdog, Amnesty International (AI) that its men killed over 150 pro-Biafran protesters.
According to reports, (AI) in its report, accused the Nigerian military of gunning down unarmed civilians before a march to mark the anniversary of the 1967 Biafran declaration of independence, stressing that based on visits to hospitals and mortuaries, at least 17 were killed and nearly 50 injured in Onitsha alone.
Reacting to the claim, army said AI was only championing a campaign of calumny against Nigeria’s military, especially the Army, with release of the report on the alleged mass killing of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IOD) by the Army.
According to a statement by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said the allegation is an “outright attempt to tarnish the reputation of the security forces in general and the Nigerian Army in particular, for whatever inexplicable parochial reasons”.
“We wish to debunk the insinuation that our troops perpetrated the killing of defenceless agitators. For the umpteenth time, the Army has informed the public about the heinous intent of this non-governmental organisation (NGO), which is never relenting in dabbling into our national security in manners that obliterate objectivity, fairness and simple logic.
“The evidence of MASSOB/IPOB violent secessionist agitations is widely known across the national and international domains. Their modus operandi has continued to relish violence that threatens national security. Indeed, between August 2015 and August 2016, the groups’ violent protests have manifested unimaginable atrocities to unleash the reign of peace, security and stability in several parts of the Southeast.
“A number of persons from the settler communities, who hailed from other parts of the country, were selected for attacks – killed and burnt. Such a reign of hate, terror and ethno-religious controversies that portend grave consequences for national security have been averted severally through the responsiveness of the Army and members of the security agencies.”
AI in a report by its interim Director in Nigeria, Makmid Kamara, said there are evidence to justify its claim.
Kamara claimed that analysis of 87 videos, 122 photographs and 146 eyewitness testimonies relating to demonstrations and other gatherings between August 2015 and August 2016 showed that the military fired live ammunition with little or no warning to disperse pro-Biafra protesters.
The report said mass evidence of extrajudicial killings carried out by security forces were found.
According to the report, security agents shot dead at least 60 people in the space of two days in during the events to mark Biafra Remembrance Day.
Kamara said, “This deadly repression of pro-Biafra activists is further stoking tensions in the south east of Nigeria. This reckless and trigger-happy approach to crowd control has caused at least 150 deaths and we fear the actual total might be far higher.
“The Nigerian government’s decision to send in the military to respond to pro-Biafra events seems to be in large part to blame for this excessive bloodshed. The authorities must immediately launch an impartial investigation and bring the perpetrators to book.”
On the extrajudicial killings, AI claimed that a large percentage of activists were killed on Biafra Remembrance Day on May 30 organised by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in Onitsha, Anambra State.
“It is chilling to see how these soldiers gunned down peaceful IPOB members. The video evidence shows that this was a military operation with intent to kill and injure.”
It said a night before the rally, the security forces raided homes and a church where IPOB members were sleeping, and that on Remembrance Day itself, the security forces shot people in several locations.
It added that it had not been able to verify the exact number of extrajudicial executions, but it estimated that at least 60 people were killed and 70 injured in these two days.
Narrating how soldiers killed the husband of a 28-year-old woman, Ngozi, the international rights group quoted the woman as saying her husband left in the morning to go to work but called her shortly afterwards saying he had been shot by the military in his abdomen.
The deceased prior to his death said he was in a military vehicle with six others, four of whom were already dead.
“He started whispering and said they just stopped [the vehicle]. He was scared they would kill the remaining three of them that were alive… He paused and told me they were coming closer. I heard gunshots and I did not hear a word from him after that.
“The next day Ngozi searched for her husband and finally found his body in a nearby mortuary. The mortuary attendants told her that the military had brought him and six others. She saw three gunshot wounds: one in his abdomen and two in his chest, which confirmed her fear that the military had executed him.
“Amnesty International has also reviewed videos of a peaceful gathering of IPOB members and supporters at Aba National High School on 9 February 2016. The Nigerian military surrounded the group and then fired live ammunition at them without any prior warning.
“According to eyewitnesses and local human rights activists, many of the protesters at Aba were rounded up and taken away by the military. On 13 February 13 corpses, including those of men known to have been taken by the military, were discovered in a pit near the Aba highway”.

No More Excuses, "We (APC) Are Responsible For Recession" Lai Mohammed says.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that the Federal Government has accepted blame for the current economic challenges facing the country.
Nigeria has been faced with serious challenges as a result of unavailability of foreign exchange, low oil export and poor income generation, which has made many businesses to dwindle and caused the masses to live in abject poverty.
Nigerian citizens have expressed their frustration with the APC-led administration, which has crumbled a lot of activities in the nation.
The Minister of Information has also stated that the government is aware of the harsh economic recession confronting the nation and noted that they are working towards bringing an end to the recession soon.
He noted that the government is trying to create other means of generating funds in order to sustain the nation.
Mohammed made the remark at the fourth commonwealth public relations congress in Lagos, as contained in a statement by the Minister’s spokesperson, Segun Adeyemi.
According to the statement, the Minister said that the Federal Government will stop making excuses on the situation of things and that uncertainties in the oil industry affects Nigeria’s economy.

Obasanjo Tells Buhari "Stop Blame Game Nigeria Needs Result-Oriented Policies, Not Excuses"

The Nigeria Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the blame game and solve the problems his administration brought to Nigeria economy
He gave the advice in a keynote address at the First Akintola Williams lecture in Lagos, yesterday.
He also lauded the crackdown on corrupt judges in the country and called for a replication of the action on the legislative arm of government.
The former president also advised Buhari to stop dwelling on the past, but rather effect the change he had promised Nigerians during his campaign by concentrating on tackling the challenges and recession his administration brought.
He said: “Now that we have had change – because the actors and the situation needed to be changed – let us move forward to have progress through a comprehensive economic policy and programme that is intellectually, strategically and philosophically based.
“It is easier to win an election than to right the wrongs of a badly fouled situation. When you are outside, what you see and know are nothing compared with the reality. And yet, once you are on the seat, you have to clear the mess and put the nation on the path of rectitude, development and progress, leaving no group or section out of your plans, programmes, policies and efforts. The longer it takes, the more intractable the problem may become.”
Commenting on the recent arrest and trial of some judges in the country, the former president said the action “will be salutary for the judiciary and for the nation.”
Although Obasanjo said that the way the judges were arrested was uncalled for, he, however, asserted that the situation needed a drastic action to check it as the judiciary was protective of itself.
He said: “One should also ask if there was an alternative. The National Judicial Council (NJC) would not do anything as it was all in-breeding.
“As now contained in our Constitution, the president of Nigeria cannot influence or make any appointment to the judiciary at the Court of Appeal or Supreme Court level. He can only transmit the decision of the NJC to the Senate even where Senate confirmation is required.
“The Constitution which was heavily influenced by the Judiciary ensured that. And yet a drastic disease requires a drastic treatment. When justice is only for sale and can only be purchased by the highest bidder, impunity and anarchy would be the order of the day and no one would be safe.
“A drastic action was needed to save the situation, albeit one would have preferred an alternative that would serve the same purpose, if there was one. In the absence of that alternative, we must all thank God for giving the president the wisdom, courage and audacity for giving the security agencies the leeway to act.”
The former president encouraged the Buhari administration to take the anti-graft war to the legislature, describing the National Assembly as ‘a den of robbers.’
“If the judiciary is being cleaned, what of the National Assembly which stinks much worse than the judiciary?” he queried, pointing out that that like the judiciary, the National Assembly cannot clean itself.
“Budget padding must not go unpunished,” he added.
“It is a reality, which is a regular and systemic practice. Nobody should pull wool over the eyes of Nigerians.”
The former leader said the nation’s top law-making body missed an opportunity to reform itself when it ‘ganged up’ against a whistleblowing lawmaker.
To him, “ganging up to intimidate and threaten the life of a whistle-blower is deplorable and undemocratic.”
He described the vexed issue of constituency projects as a veritable source of corruption.
“These constituency projects are spread over the budget for members of the National Assembly, for which they are the initiators and the contractors directly or by proxy, and money would be fully drawn, with the project only partially executed or not executed at all.
“The National Assembly cabal of today is worse than any cabal that anybody may find anywhere in our national governance system at any time. Members of the National Assembly pay themselves allowances for staff and offices they do not have or maintain. Once you are a member, you are co-opted and your mouth is stuffed with rottenness and corruption that you cannot opt out as you go home with not less than N15 million a month for a Senator and N10 million a month for a member of the House of Representatives. The National Assembly is a den of corruption by a gang of unarmed robbers,” Obasanjo stated.

“As far as we are concerned, the President, who is the leader of the party, was at the rally. The National Chairman was also there. As far as we are concerned, everybody was there.
“If a leader was not there, and he said he was not there because of ill-health, we prayed that God will heal him.”
